Klyuchi (Russian: Ключи́) is a settlement in Kamchatka Krai, Russia, situated on the Kamchatka River, 30 km to the north of Klyuchevskaya Sopka. Near here the course of the Kamchatka River turns form north to east. Population: 7,073 (2002 Census); 11,251 (1989 Census).
It was founded in 1731. In 1951, it was granted urban-type settlement status and in 1979—town status. In 2004, it was demoted to a settlement [1] in order to become eligible for increased funding from the Russian federal budget.
Klyuchi, being in a very isolated part of the Soviet Union, has been near an ICBM testing range since the Cold War, the Kura Test Range, and is served by Klyuchi air base.
